Cutting Transport Times
When SINO TRADING was contracted to outsource production and shipping for a UK client in the construction and earth-shifting sector, we soon spotted a flaw in the initial brief.
The company was contracted to provide parts to a customer in Korea but was actually shipping to the UK first (for QC checks and assembly) and then forwarding on – a combined lead time of 11 weeks.
This proved unworkable on cost and deadline grounds so we rebooted the process by running QC checks locally and also ensuring that any sub-assemblies were also undertaken by our approved, low-cost suppliers.
This allowed for a direct China-to-Korea shipping deal which cut lead times to just four weeks and resulted in reduced costs across cash-flow, handling and freight overheads – a result all round.
